Star Trek Movie Review

Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock) and Bruce Greenwood deliver us an action packed, sci-fi adventure in this film that will be loved by both Star Trek fans and non-fans alike. This movie has got everything in it.

The movie starts with Kirk’s father, who takes command of a dying star ship for about ten minutes. In those minutes, he saves hundreds of lives, including the life of his own Son, James T. Kirk.

Now, years later, Kirk gets talked into signing with Starfleet by Pike, and is off to follow in the footsteps of his father. Little did he know, he would end up fighting for the survival of his crewmates, himself, and for his very own planet in the process!

For those “Trekkies” of you who seem to shrug this one off, citing it as a deviance from the actual story of Star Trek, I dare you to watch it. You will not be disappointed. This story lines up with the actually story of star trek, as you have seen on TV, more than you could ever know until you actually see it for yourself!

But what this movie mostly is is a sci-fi action adventure that blends all of the essential elements. It has action, it has romance, it has comedy, it has epicness… it will make you laugh, cause you to be on the very edge of your seat, and will make you LOVE Star Trek, even if you have not seen it before!

One of the things that I liked most about this movie is how well the characters are casted. Chekov, Bones, Uhura, Scotty… even Sulu, are all incredibly realistic to the old, original TV series. The actors they got for this movie actually look like the characters from the TV series, and they do a very good job playing the part too!

But perhaps what I like most about this movie is that it is an empowering tale, and in a way, a journey of self discovery. These young people are thrust into a situation way over the heads of anyone in Star Fleet… but they have to deal with it because they are the only ones available. That is how life is a lot of times… we get thrust into situations that are way above us, but the challenge is to find a way to figure it out. That is what Kirk and his crew do in this movie, and their success leaves you cheering!
